Welton Bomber U11 News – Feb 25th 15

Well Ruskington certainly gave us a close game on Sunday although in truth on another day we might have scored 5 or 6 goals. The pitch again did not suit our style of play but the lads are now learning to get stuck in and play the more simple game when the conditions justify it. As each week goes by we are making less and less mistakes and as a result are conceding fewer goals! Will got man of the match for his tireless work rate and support play for the whole team.

Sunday 1st March – Horncastle AWAY(!) – 10.45am Kick-Off

As the Manor Park pitches are expected to be unplayable this Sunday Horncastle have kindly agreed to host the game and keep the same 10.45am kick-off time. They have also organised a league referee and will obviously put up and take down the goals – a big thank you to them for doing that. We think they we will be an even tougher opposition than Ruskington as they have just signed a new goalkeeper from Louth which has been their archilles heel position all season. Eli will be captain for this game.

Caroline informs us that you have raised £145 so far this season which is really good news – thank you. Although each team have been asked to give the £100 to the club to help keep signing on fees down we should still have enough at the end of the season to treat the boys. Suggest we think of something after our final game away Grimsby – maybe fish and chips on Cleethorpes seafront 😉

Welton Bombers U7 News 23rd feb

This weeks game against Hykeham Tigers was an exciting game to watch with end to end football from both teams on a very heavy pitch. The boys attacked from the first whistle and had some very good chances to take the lead early on but were thwarted by the Hykeham goalkeeper.  The vistors put away there chances in the first half to take a 2-0 lead into break. The boys continued to pass the ball around and created more chances in the second half that could of on another day ended up in the back of the net. Despite conceeding a few more goals in the second half the boys rallied and responded quickly with 2 goals in 5 minutes scored by Lewis Wilson and Oliver Grocock respectivley. Both teams had chances in the final minutes to score but the game finally finished 6-2 to the visitors.

Lots of very positive points can be taken from this weeks game as the boys worked excellently as a team creating both goals and chances but also defending as a unit. It was very pleasing to hear the Hykeham manager compliment the boys and mangers on the progress that they have made since the previous fixture. This weeks Player of the Match was Oliver Grocock who had an outstanding game.

Next weeks fixture is at home against St Helens with a 12:30 kick off weather permitting.

Welton Bombers U11 News – Feb 21st 15

Well, we asked the lads to get back to basics and show us they can do some of the less enjoyable parts of the game last weekend and you must agree they didn’t disappoint! The level of discipline in marking, tracking back when they lost the ball and overall grit and determination showed they can more than compete with the better sides in the league. Sunday against Boston in particular was one of the best team efforts we have seen all season (although a special mention must go to Alfie who was outstanding again in goal!)

Sunday 22nd Feb Ruskington Home – 10.45am kick-off

This weekend sees a different proposition but in some ways just as challenging. Ruskington were 1-0 up against Wyberton 2 weeks ago  and were unlucky to lose 2-1 in the last minute so they are a very different side we beat 9-1 in the opening game of the season. We are moving the lads positions around again a bit this weekend to give those playing in defence the last 3 games a chance to move up the field a bit. The good thing is the more the season progresses the easier it gets to place the lads in any position on the field as they are developing good all round ability.

Ruskington Feb 21st

As always please be there before 10.15 as the 30 minute  warm up routine the lads are now getting used to is really preparing them well for kick-off. Joseph is captain for the game and our league referee is Jess Hawker.

Sat 13th June 6-a-side Competiton

Please note that the U11 competition will be on the Saturday and not on the Sunday of this weekend. We have invited St Helens, Horncastle, Hykenham and Saxilby to join ourselves and the Arrows. Should be a fun day.

Welton Bombers U7 News 16th Feb

This weeks game was an exciting game to watch. After a slow start the boys soon found their feet and started playing some excellent attacking football. Despite being unable to reduce the hosts lead in the first half the team had a lot of positive points going into the break. The second half started with the boys making good progress forward but couldn’t turn possession into goals in the early stages. The breakthrough came in the form of 3 quick goals for the bombers midway through the half scored by Loui Whittaker x 2 and Lewis Wilson. Unfortunately the boys were unable to score a few more and the game finished 10-3 to HBW Utd.

Player of the Match this week was awarded to Finlay Haynes who had an excellent game.

Our next game is at home to Hykeham Tigers with a 12:30 kick off.

Welton Bombers U11 News – Feb 11th 15

Sadly the lads winning run came to an end at Wyberton last Sunday on a pitch not really suited to our passing game. Wyberton were the stronger side and taught us some important lessons learnt about holding positions and marking closely at all times. Often more is learnt in defeat than a victory! The spirit shown by the lads in the second half however was commendable and we started to take the game to them much more. We are lucky that the lads have  an excellent team spirit and never get their heads down and were unlucky not to get on the scoresheet.

We have TWO more tough games this weekend and the focus will continue to be on keeping our positions and making sure the opposition are marked at all times.

Saturday  14th Feb (Valentines day!) – Home Grimsby 10.45am Kick-Off

These are new to our league and have had some variable results so expect it could be a very close game. We will use the same formation as we did against Wyberton as it should give the lads the best chance of scoring a few goals and have enough defensive cover to keep things tight at the back. As always please there AT LEAST 30 minutes before kick-off. The forecast is not too bad but the pitch may still be a little boggy after all the rain/snow we have had over the last few weeks. Our referee will be Marcus Hill. Please see team sheet attached.

Grimsby Home 14th Feb

Sunday 15th Feb – Away Boston 10.45am Kick-Off

This has always been a very close game and we should expect the same again. If the lads agree we will probably use a similar team and formation as Saturdays game but this will of course depend on how well it works for them!

Speaking to the manager tonight they play on a different (and better!) pitch from last year. The new address is Haven High Technology College, Tollfield Road, Boston, PE21 9PN . As always please be there at least 30 minutes before kick-off.

Dates for the Diary !!

Presentation Night – Saturday 6th June (time tbc)

Welton Bombers U7 News 10th Feb

A tough game for the boys this week but they still battled for the full match. The boys played some excellent football in attack but were unlucky as we were unable to turn the chances into goals for the team. The improvement in the team since the start of the season is a joy to see as the boys are bonding more and more each week.

The management team would like to thank all the parents for there support each week and all season as without them we wouldn’t have the team we have.

Our next game is away against HBW United FC with kick off at 10:45.

Welton Bombers U7 News 4th Feb

This is the first of the weekly updates for the boys. Our latest fixture was a home tie against North Lindum Hawks at Manor Park. After conceding an early goal the boys responded well by getting back on level terms straight away. A superb free kick scored by Loui Whittaker filling the whole team with confidence. The rest of the first half was very even with chances for both teams until the visitors regained the lead just before half time. The second half was much like the first with both teams playing some very good football, the visitors extended there lead with two quick goals. The bombers never let there heads drop which is testament to the spirit of the boys and were rewarded with an excellent team goal finished off by Thomas Faers.

The boys next game is at home on Sunday 8th February against Greenbank JFC Kick off is at 12:30.

Stoke City Trip

Welton FC have had a great day out at Stoke City today, three Coaches loaded with excited children and parents left Manor Park at 8:30 and arrived at the Britannia Stadium at 11:45 in time for our Stadium tour.
After lunch it was back in the stadium for a group photo before we all took our seats by the players tunnel.

Stoke stated brightly and took a deserved lead after a scramble in the West Ham box and Moses forced the ball home.  He celebrated in the corner in front of us!   Stoke continued to dominate the first half but failed increase there lead.

At half time Stoke made a presentation to representatives from Welton FC and the club badge was displayed on the stadium screen!

Stoke City continued to push forward and doubled there advantage early in the second half when Diouf headed home a Jon Walters cross.
West Ham had not but together an attack of note until Downing broke down the right and crossed to the far post for Valencia to head in with 30 minuets left.
Stoke continued to play the better football and create chances but Stuart Downing denied them all three points when he drove in the equaliser from inside the 18 yard box.

A big thank you to Stoke City for their hospitality and Welton’s Jonathan Hodges for organising an excellent day out for everybody.

Managers Tournament

Well done to all the parents, coaches and managers who took part in our 5-a-side tournament on Saturday.

It was a great event played in a good spirit, think the kids enjoyed watching us showing off our silky skills!

Congratulations to the winners, Tim Smith’s U15’s team who edged out Paul Carricks U7 in an exciting final.

Thanks to Garry and Jo Crowther for arranging it for us.
