Welton Bombers U11 News – 19th Nov 14

Well the boys certainly like to keep us parents hanging onto the end, this week it was our turn to camp in the oppositions half in the last 10 mins and thankfully Joseph managed to get a winner with virtually the last kick of the game! It was a close game but we think we deserved the win to put us back on the top of the league. Man of the Match went to Adam for his usual solid display both in midfield and in particular in defence for the whole of the second half.

Sunday 23rd Nov – Ruskington Lions at Home – 10.45am Kick-Off

Although we beat these in the first game of the season we expect that this Sunday will be somewhat tougher and probably similar to last weeks against St Helens. I think the boys like us to play two up front so we will do the same again this week and see if we can get a few more lads on the score sheet. Adam will be captain. We have a league referee but would appreciate if anyone is happy to run the line

Sunday 30th Nov – Grimsby Colts at Home – 10.45am Kick-Off

This is a new team in our league and looking at their results so far will be the toughest game we have played all season. We will probably adopt the same formation and team that saw us beat Wyberton and let’s see if we can make it work again! Captain for this game will be Connor.

Caroline said that we already had £111 raised so far this season from match day raffles and fundraising in the Dambusters Inn. With 7 home games left we hope to get over the £200 mark again which will be a very good effort – thanks!

See you all at training this Thursday where we will be focussing on Possession and see if we can carry this through to the match on Sunday.

Regards Dave/Adam

Welton Bombers U11 News

What a great game on Sunday! We were expecting a difficult game against Wyberton so to be 6-1 up at half-time was amazing credit to the boys and some exceptional finishing from Joseph! Wyberton showed great spirit to come back in the second half though and we had to show some battling spirit to just nick it 6-5 by the final whistle. We all went back to Dambusters Inn afterwards to watch the game again on video and have some well earned hot dogs and chips courtesy of the Greg the landlord. All in all a great day!

Sunday 16th Nov – St Helens Home – 10.45am Kick-Off

Our next game is against a newly formed side and we will take the  chance to play a few more lads in attacking positions. As you know it is our policy (and always will be ) to play all the lads in different positions whenever possible to ensure they develop into all round good footballers. Could you please be there for 10.15 latest as it is very important the lads have a proper warm-up before the match. For the safety of the boys any lads who are late it is best we start them as sub so they can warm-up on the line properly before coming on. We don’t yet have a referee for this game so any volunteers?? We are only aware of Connor being unavailable and Sam Reeve will be captain.

Sunday 23rd Nov – Ruskington Home – 10.45am Kick-Off

Although we beat this team 9-1 at the start of season they have had some close results as the season progresses so will be tougher opposition this time around. We believe that all the lads are available for this game and Adam will be captain.

Where possible we will continue to be using the video for matches and training sessions, not only as a bit of fun for the boys but hopefully to get across some good learning points. Anyone happy to video a half or two during the season then let us know (we do have to get permission of the opposing manager and parents first though). It will be good to try to capture some of the seasons highlights on DVD at the end of the season and should give us some great still shots for the presentation evening!

It was good to see the raffle being run again on Sunday, hopefully Caroline will be able to get close to the £230 from last season which, after giving £100 back to the club to help with subs, should leave us enough to treat the lads at the end of the season. Maybe a trip to Pleasure Island at Cleethorpes? – just a thought. It might also be good to have a bit of a Xmas party at the Dambusters on Thurs 18th Dec instead of training? We can have some snacks and maybe a football quiz with lads vs parents? Again just a thought!

Hope to see you all at training this Thursday.

Stoke City Trip

Welton FC have had a great day out at Stoke City today, three Coaches loaded with excited children and parents left Manor Park at 8:30 and arrived at the Britannia Stadium at 11:45 in time for our Stadium tour.
After lunch it was back in the stadium for a group photo before we all took our seats by the players tunnel.

Stoke stated brightly and took a deserved lead after a scramble in the West Ham box and Moses forced the ball home.  He celebrated in the corner in front of us!   Stoke continued to dominate the first half but failed increase there lead.

At half time Stoke made a presentation to representatives from Welton FC and the club badge was displayed on the stadium screen!

Stoke City continued to push forward and doubled there advantage early in the second half when Diouf headed home a Jon Walters cross.
West Ham had not but together an attack of note until Downing broke down the right and crossed to the far post for Valencia to head in with 30 minuets left.
Stoke continued to play the better football and create chances but Stuart Downing denied them all three points when he drove in the equaliser from inside the 18 yard box.

A big thank you to Stoke City for their hospitality and Welton’s Jonathan Hodges for organising an excellent day out for everybody.
